Location

In 2010, Bethany Rush, the founder of Brackendale Eagles, and the director of our business team, started a journey that is now ours but that she built from scratch all by herself. It all began in the Canadian town of Lucan, in Ontario, within the four walls of an office Bethany rented.

In fact, nine years later we haven’t moved. Our community of art professionals is still based in Lucan. Our offices have expanded over the years and are now quite a trademark of the area in which they are located. We love to promote our region, so here are some fun and interesting things to know about Lucan, Ontario.

Location and demographics

Lucan, which official township name is Lucan Biddulph following an amalgamation in 1999, is situated in Southwestern Ontario.

We have a population of about 5,000 people and our land stretches across 169 square kilometers. The livelihood of our people is historically rooted in the practice of agriculture and the raising of livestock.

Interesting historical facts

In 1829, Lucan became a haven for a community of free African Americans who fled from Cincinnati, in the state of Ohio, after being discriminated and threatened by racist whites in the city. The group was granted refuge and set up the colony of Wilberforce.

In the 1840s and 1850s, after many African Americans had moved to urban centers such as Detroit and Toronto, a large number of Irish migrants purchased farmsteads in the territory.

In 1856, an important route of the Grand Trunk Railway was opened, and it passed through the village. This contributed greatly to the period of prosperity that followed, as larger marketplaces, like Toronto, were finally accessible. In addition, new migrants came to settle in the area.

Sports

Lucan is the home of the junior hockey team the Lucan Irish, which competes in the Provincial Junior Hockey League. The soccer club of Lucan FC represents the township in the Ontario Soccer Association.

Art

Being an art consulting agency, of course we had to talk about art in Lucan, Ontario. There are two main art galleries worth visiting, the Murals in Metal, in the McGillivray Dr. area, and the Grant Gallery, in the Main Street.
