Photos

Photography is a brilliant art form. Here are three Canadian photographers whose artworks you should definitely explore.

Edward Burtynsky

Edward Burtynsky is a renowned Canadian photographer, with works exhibited in more than 50 museums all over the world, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Guggenheim in New York.

Burtynsky focuses extensively on the relationship between nature and industry. His photographs of industrial landscapes stun people with either the unexpected beauty of the places, or the shocking environmental impact.

Neil Dankoff

Neil Dankoff’s photographs are powerful, dramatic, panoramic, intense and transcendent. We could go on with the list of adjectives. The natural beauty of his works makes us immediately wander around distant places.

His singular style is achieved by grouping multiple images shot with varying exposures. Some of his career’s highlights include breathtaking photos of Africa, Israel, Italy and Switzerland.

Laura Letinsky

Laura Letinsky takes truly expressive photographs with a special focus on the stillness of the atmosphere that is being shot. In the beginning of her career, Letinsky mainly photographed people. With time, she transitioned to her trademark pictures of still life.

In them, the presence of people is not explicit, but rather suggested, by resorting to images of peeled fruits, crumbs, half-empty glasses or dishes yet to be washed, to name a few examples.

Letinsky’s work has been displayed in museums such as the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. She is inspired by the Dutch paintings of the 17th century to play with the perceptions of color and space.
